The 3-0 win at home to Penguin means Saxons have taken seven points from their last three Sussex Open Hockey League Division One games, all of which have been against top three opposition.

Saxons started the match brightly and with the midfield passing the ball confidently, skipper Jamie Busbridge opened the scoring from a good pass by Sam Bunday, who injured his shoulder shortly afterwards and took no further part.

Harry Reece doubled the lead shortly before half time after Saxons had ridden out a period where they had only 10 men after the questionable sin-binning of Toby Reed.

The Hastings club had surrendered a two-goal lead in the previous weekend’s 2-2 draw away to Eastbourne II, but there were no such slip-ups on this occasion.

Saxons continued to apply pressure and the promising Andrew Orr set up Busbridge to complete the scoring as Saxons moved up to fifth.

In stark contrast to their away record, Saxons have won all of their last five home games and six of their seven at Horntye Park this season, scoring 35 goals in the process.
