Saxons scored four goals in either half to run out 8-1 victors at home to St Francis and preserve their three-point lead at the top of Sussex Open Hockey League Division One.

The game started with Saxons firmly in control, passing the ball around well and dominating the early possession. A couple of chances were nearly converted before a well-rehearsed short corner was despatched by Alex Coombs to give Saxons a deserved lead.

St Francis soon equalised, however, with a superb reverse stick finish against the run of play. After this surprise, Saxons got back into the swing of things and a second practised short corner routine was finished off by Olli Beal.

As half time approached, Saxons captain Jamie Busbridge scored two well-taken goals to give his team a healthy advantage.

The message at half time was more of the same and a Tudor Stainsby goal seemingly put the game to bed at the 45-minute mark.

The second half saw some extremely exciting hockey played by the home team, resulting in chance after chance being created.

Paddy Cornish got himself on the scoresheet and Coombs grabbed his second soon afterwards. There was just about time for one last goal as a flowing team move was finished by John Morgan, much to the delight of the home crowd.
