Shooting star nets Euro spot

Steve Scott has earned a place at the European Shooting Championships in the double trap discipline.

The Battle marksman will line-up in Larnaca, Cyprus, from May 17-26 after a good performance at a Selection Shoot last weekend.

The 27-year-old totalled 131/150 at the Southern Counties Shooting Ground in Dorset to come third in a competition won with a score of 135. He also posted the highest single round score of the day with 48.

What’s more, Scott scored nine more than Stevan Walton and now believes he has the edge in what he expects to be a battle between the two men for the Olympic Games reserve spot.

The 2008 European Champion says he has probably two more chances to stake his Olympic bid at ISSF World Cup events in London later this month and Lonato at the start of next month.

“If I can get a good score, it shows I’m on form as such,” added Scott, who has this week been booking his flights to Lonato and estimates it will cost £1,500-£1,700 for six days in Italy.

As reported in last week’s Observer Sport, Scott is desperate for sponsorship given that he is not part of the revised list of athletes on the Lottery-funded World Class Performance Programme 2012 run by British Shooting.
