Sidley brought down to earth

SIDLEY United were brought down to earth after their RUR Cup penalty shoot-out heroics by a 1-0 defeat at home to high-flying Whitehawk on Saturday.

Simon Rowland's controversial 66th minute finish clinched victory for the third-placed visitors but United joint manager Peter Heritage thought his side were worth a point.

He said: "I think we deserved a draw. They were made up to come out with a win. It was a bit disappointing."

Rowland struck after Sidley had only partially cleared a corner. The ball was driven back in and, although a player was occupying an offside position, the goal was allowed to stand as he was deemed not to be interfering with play.

Sidley, who lost Shae Spreafico to a calf injury, went close through Wes Tate and substitute Kevin Rose.
