Sidley endure dismal week

SIDLEY United endured a dismal week in Sussex Division One, conceding 11 goals in successive defeats to Chichester City United and Hailsham Town.

The first was most definitely the worst as last season's champions Chichester left Gullivers with a resounding 8-1 victory on Saturday. The impressive visitors were four goals up by half time and had put six past Greg Thurstans by the time Billy Trickett followed in Dave Ward's parried shot for a 74th minute consolation. Two more goals in the final 10 minutes completed Blues' misery.

United actually shaded the first hour of Tuesday night's 3-0 loss to bottom-half Hailsham but caved in after going behind in the 63rd minute. All three of the away side's goals came from crosses into the box after a clean through Lee Wood was foiled by a super diving stop during the first half.

The Blues will be hoping for better fortune on Saturday October 9 when they entertain high-riding Worthing United, kick-off 1.15pm.
