Unlucky Sidley slip to defeat

SIDLEY United slipped a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Hassocks on Saturday.

The Blues defied the absence of several key players and the early sending off of Matt Dadswell to turn in a rallying performance which only lacked a stroke of good fortune.

The away team were the better side despite their numerical disadvantage, and both Lee Wood and Russell Eldridge clattered the woodwork.

Joint manager Peter Heritage said: "The lads did everything I could have asked of them. We were very unfortunate to lose and we played ever so well."

The visitors were up against it from the opening 10 minutes when Dadswell received his marching orders for a professional foul after tugging a forward when he was through on goal.

The only goal came on 72 minutes when Graham Beveridge beat the offside trap to shot past impressive debutant keeper James Duffell.

Sidley conclude their home league programme on Saturday April 12 with a match against Shoreham, before visiting champions Burgess Hill on Tuesday.
