Valiant end to cup adventure

BEXHILL College's heroic National College Cup odyssey finally came to a valiant end with a 3-1 defeat at home to Henley College.

The well-drilled visitors from Coventry were coached by former Norwich City ace Dave Phillips.

Despite missing star man Shae Spreafico through a hamstring injury, Bexhill did themselves proud in the quarter-final at the Polegrove on Wednesday.

Tom Frere-Smith had the best chance early on but was denied by a point blank save from the Henley keeper.

The opening goal came five minutes before half time and it was the Midlands outfit who struck.

Bexhill came out with all guns blazing at the start of the second period and deservedly drew level after 50 minutes when Frere-Smith's shot proved too hot for the away keeper.

But their joy was short-lived as Henley took control with two more goals.
