VIDEO: The start of the Worthing 10k

A RECORD number of runners took part in the Worthing 10k this morning.

The event was run by Worthing Harriers and also acted as the Sussex 10k Championships. It met the race limit of 1,650 and there incentives of a £1,000 cash prize for the first man to run under 30 minutes or the first woman to run under 34 minutes.

Haywards Heath Harriers’ Chris Smith was on course to finish in under 30 minutes at the halfway stage, before he got home in a personal-best time of 30min 52sec.

Last year’s winner, Neil Boniface, of Horsham Joggers, was second in 31-45 and Brighton & Hove’s Ash Humphreys was third in 33-09.

The winner of the women’s race was Worthing Harriers’ Emma Macready, who was running for Your Next Move, in 35-57.

Harriers team-mate Sarah Kingston was second in 36-42 and another Worthing Harrier, Helen Fuller, was third in 38-22.
