Watkins dangles Shield carrot

BEXHILL United manager Len Watkins is using the carrot of the Bexhill Observer Charity Shield game against Sidley United as a motivational tool to ensure his players perform in their last couple of Sussex Division Three games.

With two fixtures remaining United's league campaign appears destined for mid-table obscurity but Watkins wants to see a final flourish from his players and says that anybody giving less than 100 per cent will lose their place for the derby showdown.

He said: "There's a big buzz about it. They all want to play in front of that big crowd but the only way they are going to do that is by applying themselves until the end of the season. If they think for one minute they can just turn up and get picked for the Sidley game they've got another think coming."

Dom and Tim Bigg, Chris Makin and Danny Collins are suspended for the visit to Newhaven on Saturday March 29.
