Williams fires Bexhill to victory

BEXHILL United gained a 3-2 win in an incident packed Sussex Division Three match against a strong Storrington side.

The result was Bexhill's second consecutive victory and the opening day nightmare at Ifield now seems a distant memory.

Manager Len Watkins said: "It was an excellent result. We were playing really well but for the last 10 minutes of the first half when we hardly got a kick. But we kept them out and second half it was pretty even stevens."

From the start United pressurised the Storrington defence and inside the opening minute Dickie Anderson found the top corner of the net following good work by Daniel Rudgley and Benjie Symes.

A clumsy tackle by Dom Bigg gave Storrington an undeserved chance to level from the penalty spot but Aaron Heritage pulled off a great save.

United immediately responded and the second goal arrived on 25 minutes. The lively Dave Williams latched onto a high ball on the edge of the area and with his back to goal scored with a most spectacular scissor kick.

United continued to press but disaster struck in the 32nd minute when a Storrington corner fell to Symes and his attempted clearance hit Chris Makin and ended up in the back of the net.

The hosts equalised with a quarter of an hour remaining when a poor United throw resulted in Hall firing home.

Four minutes later the visitors claimed the winner when a tremendous long ball from Cornelius put Williams clear and he gave the advancing keeper no chance from 18 yards.

Bexhill visit Hurstpierpoint on Saturday September 6.
