Ninfield bonfire to put on a show

Bonfire societies and drumming groups from Rother, Hastings and beyond will join members of the Ninfield Bonfire Society for a torchlit parade around the village, followed by a roaring bonfire and some fabulous fireworks.

Societies are asked to muster in Church Lane, next to the recreation ground, at 6.50pm.

The group will then process up The Green, into Manchester Road, into Combe Lane and round into the High Street before making its way back to the recreation ground.

The bonfire will be lit on the recreation ground at 8pm, with the fireworks due to start at 8.30pm.

Visitors are reminded that these times are approximate and subject to change.

Once again there will be several road closures around the village to allow the parade a safe passage.

A number of roads will be affected by the closures, which will take place between 7.15pm and 8.30pm.

Roads which will be affected by the closures include the High Street, from the Combe Lane junction to The Green and to the roundabout at the Kings Arms.

Other roads affected include Combe Lane, Standard Hill Close, the junction at Compass Lane, the junction at Marlpits Lane, all of Manchester Road, Coombe Shaw, Milfield, Moons Hill junction, Church Road and Downs View.

The Ninfield Bonfire Society is asking residents and visitors not to park on the roads that will be closed as they cannot guarantee that the vehicles won’t be damaged during the evening’s entertainment.

There is very limited parking available in the village.

Next Saturday (October 29) it will be the turn of Ewhurst and Staplecross, followed by Battle and the Robin Hood at Icklesham on November 5, Rye on November 12, and Robertsbridge on November 19.

Bonfire season will close on November 26 with a lively event promised over at Hawkhurst.
