Staff and children at St Mary’s school and college, in Wrestwood Road Bexhill, took part in their own Great British Bake-off competition.
Heats took place in each department in the school and the best baker went on to represent their team in the final.
All the rounds were judged by two pupils and Amanda Clugston and Ian Mason from the St Mary’s interim management team, with help from Rob Braybrook, one of the in house catering team, who oversaw the baking and advised the judges.
The five finalists were, Marilyn Winchester, Heather Noble, Pam Martin, Victoria Mewett and Ashley Pollen.
In the first round the contestants made their own signature dish, this round was won by Marilyn with her Victoria Sponge. The second round was the technical challenge, where the contestants had to make six eclairs and six profiteroles, won by Heather.
Three finalists took part in the final Showstopper Challenge which was to make a three dimensional cake that reflected life at St Mary’s school and college.
The St Mary’s ultimate Star Baker was Heather.
Throughout the Bake-Off pupils encouraged the staff and were able to watch a live streaming of the event. They also had a chance to taste the cakes and or course helped with the judging.
Amanda Clugston said: “There has been a super atmosphere around the school as pupils and staff encouraged our contestants. I would like to say a special thank you to out contestants, Rob our Baker and especially our judges.”
