Bexhill Association of National Trust Members

THE Bexhill Association of National Trust Members met on December 6 for the last of its lecture meetings for 2008.

They were treated to a very pleasant afternoon of traditional folk songs of the 16th and 17th Century, played on unusual instruments of the period by Joy Lewis and Derrick Hughes.

The variety of instruments included Northumbrian smallpipes, recorders, guitar, hammer dulcimer, crumhorn, concertina, zither harp and bowed psaltery.

Joy and Derrick entertained with seasonal carols like Apples In Winter, In The Bleak Midwinter and The Holly And The Ivy while playing their various instruments. Their performance was roundly applauded by the members.

The next meeting is on Saturday, January 10 at St Peter's Community Centre, starting at 2.45pm when Alan Malpass will give a talk on Through The Highwoods - Through The Seasons.
