British Legion Little Common Women's Section

MRS Jill Masterton (chairperson) welcomed us to the annual meeting of the Women's Section, she then introduced our president and secretary Mrs Daphnne Tebbs who gave a marvellous speech on our work and achievements for the past year, money to various bits of the Legion, Head Office, Welfare and County.

The committee were thanked for their work over the year.

We are one of the biggest and most thriving branch of the Women's Legion section. This was very well received.

Mrs Masterton thanked Mrs Tebbs and again reiterated the work and support of the committee. Our finances are sound.

Reminder of the County Conference on Friday, November 30 at Hayward Heath.

Our new standard bearer, Lindsey Boyle was introduced by our outgoing standard bearer, Mrs Joan Berry who has done a wonderful job over the last 10 years. Her last task in office was the parade, church service and service at the Cenotaph on Sunday 11 for Memorial Remembrance Service.

The election of offices was unanimously agreed. Our secretary Mrs Daphnne Tebbs (17 years from 1995) stepped down and Mrs June Mantle will be replacing her. Our treasurer Mrs Joan Berry will be replaced by Mrs Maureen Bunclark. Mrs Berry joined the Legion in 1954 and has served in various clubs and done various jobs in this time from 1966.

Both retiring ladies will be much missed. We welcome their replacements. Our chairman thanked them both and presented them with a sandwich tray and two mugs with poppy decoration, there was much applause.

Our Christmas Fair on Saturday, November 24 was finalised and stalls allocated. It is at the Legion Little Common from 10am till noon. We hope for a good attendance and we have lots of excellent ware to sell.

The raffle was drawn and after a short break our new secretary Mrs June Mantle then entertained us by presenting us with a picture quiz (very hard, old film stars) then a few jokes, and excellent music quiz (all with small prizes). To finish we had a Christmassy come 60ies based sing song. We meet in the Legion, Little Common on the second Wednesday in the month, from 7-9pm. Come and see what it's like, you never know you might just enjoy the evening.
