Little Common Ladies Club - July 18

OUR meeting on Wednesday, June 25 was attended by 43 members and two visitors an unusually low number due to holidays and other commitments.Mrs Patricia Grayling welcomed Louise Collins from The Chestnut Tree Hospital (our chosen charity for this year).

The Chestnut Tree House is situated in Arundel and is the only children's hospice in Sussex. They care for local children and young people from birth to 19 years of age - with progressive life-limiting and life threatening illnesses such as muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis; spinal muscular atrophy, disabilities, cancer and progressive genetic disorders. Sadly, children affected by these conditions will probably die before they reach adulthood. There are potentially 400 families with life-limited children in Sussex alone.

Completed in 2003 the hospice provides a home from home environment with ten special bedrooms for children who come for overnight respite care, plus eight family rooms, a wet and dry play area, computer and music rooms, a multi sensory room and hydrotherapy pool.

They receive only 10 per cent funding from the government so rely on the generosity of the people of Sussex for donations.

Mrs Grayling then presented a cheque for 300 to Miss Collins thanking her for her talk and hoping our donation would help in some small way.

We were also delighted to be able to send a cheque for 100 to Homecall our second charity choice.

During the past month 16 members enjoyed an evening at the De La Warr Pavilion where we saw The Blods production of The Music Man. On July 9 we are going to Parham House for our summer outing.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday at The Little Common Community Centre at 7.45pm, an Evening of Entertainment. Come along and join us, all visitors will be given a warm welcome.
