Little Common Morning Townswomen's Guild - May 9

THE chairperson opened the meeting by welcoming visitors and also extending a warm welcome to June as our new secretary. The minutes of the annual meeting were read and approved, the treasurer gave her report, and reports were also made on all other sections.

The chairman thanked Doreen Shields for arranging the speakers over the last six years, Doreen now wishes to retire from Programme Secretary, and arranging our many outings - it was agreed by all that she has done a wonderful job over the past six years.

We were made aware of The National Townswomen's Coffee Morning at Manor Barn on May 7 - when all are welcome.

We broke for coffee and were brought to attention by the hearty entrance of our speaker for the day - Mr Rex Swain, the Town Crier of Rye, attired in full traditional regalia and madly clanging his somewhat oversized bell. He entertained us for the next hour with his very descriptive and humorous tales of his family heritage and his early years under the strict auspices of his mother, in Rye. He was most amusing and his poems and stores were hilarious.

A very entertaining morning was enjoyed by all. Our next meeting will be held at Little Common Community Centre on May 22 at 9.45am.
