With a tribute to the tenor saxophonist Stan Getz, the Chris Ingham Quartet will perform at Steyning Jazz Club on Friday, May 5.

Club spokesman Colin Jilks said: “Chris Ingham formed his jazz quartet in 2013 and has led over a hundred performances of his Stan Getz, Dudley Moore and Hoagy Carmichael repertoire projects throughout the UK. From the late 1940s to the early 1990s, tenor saxophonist Stan Getz was one of the great individual instrumental artists in jazz. While his accompaniments were richly varied, Getz’s playing was always unmistakable, characterised by his singing, luminescent tone and melodic creativity. At this Steyning Jazz Club gig the Chris Ingham Quartet will interpret a varied selection from the repertoire particularly associated with Stan Getz, playing tracks from their latest CD entitled Simply Stan. The quartet features Chris Ingham, piano; Mark Crooks, tenor saxophone; Arnie Somogyi, bass; George Double, drums. With the phenomenally gifted saxophonist Mark Crooks, this quartet is everything one could wish for; swinging, supple and always appropriate. Mark’s tenor playing rises to the challenge with a balance between intensity and lyricism; undoubtedly, Chris Ingham’s mastery of the subtle differences in style is impressive with this quartet. Chris has had a long career; he played drums in the school punk band, violin in the school orchestra and guitar in the school Dixieland band, a versatility he has pursued ever since. He studied drama, English and education at Warwick University 1981-85, tried a little acting, played R&B guitar in the Locomotives and taught himself some jazz piano. Chris spent three years performing in rock venues, piano bars and comedy clubs. He is also a composer, and in 2017 he provided the soundtrack for the series Wartime Crime for Discovery/UKTV,”
