An office block in Eastbourne that was home to a national insurance company could become flats if plans are given the go ahead.

AXIS House in St Leonards Road was built in 1973 and has been used as offices ever since. Most recently it’s been used by AXA UK but in November 2021 the company decided to close the offices and have gradually moved out since. The site has now been vacant for three months. The move was triggered due to ‘changing work environments’ and less of a need for office space.

Now plans have been submitted to Eastbourne Borough Council to convert the site into 18 one-bed flats. Plans say there would be no changes to the external appearance of the building, but two parking spaces would be lost to bring in cycle/bin storage. There is parking to the rear of the building and it’s a ‘largely residential area’ according to plans.

The target determination date for the plans is December 15 (reference: 220774).
