National chain scraps plans to open in Eastbourne railway station

Plans for a new coffee shop in Eastbourne’s railway station are no longer going ahead.

Costa Coffee submitted plans to Eastbourne Borough Council to open another branch in the old ticket office last year.

It would have been the fourth branch for the town - other outlets include on Terminus Road, Langney Shopping Centre and The Beacon.

The original design and access statement submitted to the council said the company found the high footfall a ‘highly attractive’ prospect.

However, those plans have now been altered due to the impact of Covid and reduced rail travel.

A spokesperson from Costa said, “We can confirm that we are not progressing with the site at this time as we are currently reviewing plans on a site-by-site basis.”
