The Sky Park Farm rangers toured the farm with Shona, who has experience of deer handling having worked with them during her veterinary training. The team visited the farm’s red deer herd in their parkland habitat during the rut, as well as their sika and white red deer herds before bringing some of the red deer into the handling system for their annual winter health checks. Shona was meticulous in her work, checking the animals for a clear healthy eye, a good coat and sufficient fat covering to ensure they are well prepared for the colder months.

Shona was joined by Lily Twigger, one of Sky Park Farm’s rangers, as the camera crew followed the pair at work. Lily has worked at the farm since it opened in 2021 under the guidance of head ranger, Glyn Ingram. Glyn is particularly well-placed when it comes to training, having previously worked for the British Deer Society as deer officer and training manager. Glyn oversees all animal husbandry across the farm’s 210 acres and 300 deer.
