Walberton pre-school in urgent need of more space

Helen Baxter and Mandy Foulds, current operators of the Walberton Pre-school, want planning permission from Arun District Council to erect a purpose-built building.

A statement submitted with the application by agent David Seaman, of Seaman Partnership, said: “The current pre-school is very busy, and requires a dedicated facility as it currently shares the village hall.

“This means that the current pre-school lacks the facilities it would ideally require.

“The current waiting list has 67 children on it, with an age span from four weeks to three years.

“The four-year-old children who have only recently been added to the list are very unlikely to ever get a place, as the class is full.

“This distressing situation happens frequently.”

The proposed structure would occupy a 193.5sq metre site, situated to the north of the existing village hall, The Street, out of which the school currently operates.

The single-storey facility would have a curved roof with natural ventilation.

The walls of the building would also be softened using timbre boarding.

The facility would have several sustainable features including a wild-flower meadow which will be planted on the roof and grown in topsoil from the building’s foundations.
