The DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) has released its twice yearly list of banned UK number plates, deemed too distasteful for the road.

Personalised number plates can, at times be tasteful, and then can often mean something special to the person driving the car to which they are attached.

But sometimes some plates can be a little too suggestive, or even offensive, so, bi-annually, the DVLA bans number plates that they believe are too rude to be seen out on the road.

How do DVLA decide which number plates to ban?

Deciding which distasteful plates don’t make it out onto the roads isn’t something which is done by a computer, but is done during a bi-annual meeting.

Experts examine each potential combination of letters and numbers in order to ensure that nothing offensive slips through the net and out onto the road.

These are just some of the 20-plate registrations that the DVLA has decided to ban:

AS20 HOLBS20 TRDEU20 BADGB20 GUNNO20 ARMPE20 RVTMU20 DERTO20 SRRGB20 FKDBU20 GRDMU20 GERBS20 TDSBS20 TDZBS20 TRDBU20 GARBU20 GERBU20 GGRBU20 GRDBU20 GRRBU20 GRSBU20 GRYFA20 NNYFC20 KERFF20 KEDFF20 KERFK20 SXYGB20 SHTGO20 HLLGO20 SHT

A spokesperson from the DVLA said, “The vast majority of registration marks are made available, but the Agency withholds any combinations of numbers and letters that may cause offence, embarrassment or are in poor taste.”
