A-level delight across the county

COLLEGES and students were congratulating themselves as the A-level results were revealed.

Every school and college reported outstanding results, with higher grades and percentages all round.

Students at The Weald School were celebrating the school's best ever haul of A-level results.

Steyning Grammar School continued to maintain its place as a premier centre of Sixth Form excellence in West Sussex with a set of A-level results which exceed even last year's grades.

Examination results at Collyer's in Horsham were once again excellent. Overall pass rate at A-level for 16-18 year olds is just over 98 per cent, with 53 per cent at grades A and B.

Once again this year's A-level results were outstanding at Christ's Hospital, with an overall pass rate of 100 per cent, an A/B pass rate of just under 76 per cent and an average UCAS points total of 314 points per pupil.

Felpham Community College again posted very impressive post 16 results. Nearly half (44 per cent) of the Year 13 students secured A/B grades and overall the pass rate was 96 per cent.

St Philip Howard School students at Barnham showed they were the cream of the crop when it comes to achieving high grades, with no less than nine students getting straight As for their subjects.

Year 13 students at Midhurst Rother College achieved an impressive set of A-level results with exceptionally strong performance in a number of subject areas. 43 per cent of entries were either at grade A or B; the average point score per student was 564; and 95 per cent of A level entries were successful.

Bishop Luffa Sixth Form students at Chichester were celebrating record-breaking A-level results this morning. The group of 125 Year 13 students achieved a 99 per cent pass rate for all the exams entered, 32 per cent of which were awarded A grade and nearly 60 per cent grades A or B.

A total of 85.3 per cent of students at Lancing College have acheived A or B at A-level, with 40 per cent of all candidates obtaining at least three A grades.

Seaford College notched up a 99 per cent pass rate, with boys getting 50 per cent of their results graded A or B. The average point score per candidate was 270.

Students and staff were celebrating the best ever A level results at Chichester College. Reflecting on the result, Vicki Illingworth, director of student success said: "We are delighted with this fantastic success for our learners.

Staff and students at Bognor Regis Community College were celebrating the best ever pass rate in year 13 (95 per cent) and the highest percentage of A and B grades recorded (37 per cent) in A level and BTEC courses.
