IF there is one thing guaranteed in life it is that any event designed to highlight the joys of outdoor pursuits will be hit by the weather

Thus, the launch of the joint new Rother District Council / Hastings and Rother Primary Care Trust www.activerother.org.uk website last Friday attracted the first rain shower of the week.

Rother sports development officer Adrian Gaylon and Hastings and Rother Primary Care Trust senior health promotion adviser Stuart Ramsbottom have worked long and hard to make the website a reality.

Undaunted by the fact that instead of standing in a sun-lit park surrounding by young children they were sheltering in the Egerton Park Family Learning Centre together with one mum and her two toddlers, they went ahead with the launch.

Stuart Ramsbottom said: "Promoting physical activity and getting people more active is one of the key priorities of the PCT. So this website is all about getting people to learn about what is available and, hopefully, it will encourage them to go out and be more active."

Adrian Gaylon said he was delighted that the website had come together because it had taken many years to achieve.

He was certain it would soon become a useful community resource, enabling people to become more healthy.

He hoped it would encouraging sporting groups and other agencies encouraging activity to promote themselves.

It launch marked the start of a new means of encouraging the people of Rother to become more active.

It would demonstrate that in addition to promoting good health, being active could be fun. H14205.
