Adventure in France

The 1st Little Common Scout Group, made up with a party of 37 Scouts and Explorer Scouts, returned to Bexhill following their action week in the Gorge du Tarm in South East France.

The trip was co-ordinated by Stephen Webb-Bowen, Group Scout Leader, supported by six other leaders and junior leaders.

Stephen says though the Group arrived at the tiny village of Les Vignes in pouring rain the sun soon arrived and it stayed very warm and sunny for the rest of the week; perfect for what was in store for the youngsters. “The activities started with rafting and paintball on Monday followed by the French equivalent of Go Ape except this was up a mountain with very narrow ledges and zip wires between mountains, “ he said.

“As the week progressed so did the activities with white water rafting, canoeing and canyoning and an 80 metre abseil in one of the biggest cave complexes in France!”

The scouts said it was truly a week to remember. Archie said it was “so cool and amazing,” and Hadley’s take on the experience was simply: “I loved the activities! Favourite was canoeing and the zip wire and was brilliant.”

Toby said: “It was amazing.” And Thomas summed it up by saying: “It was the most awesome adventure.”

Stepehn said despite delays on the journey home at Calais, the scout’s coach still made it back to Little Common just under 3 hours later than planned. “It was a very good trip with children loving the activiies and the weather, not to mention the fun in taking turns in the washing up!,” he said. “Well done to everyone for making this trip a trip to be so proud of. The Scouts and the Explorers behaviour was first class. The instructors and the activities took everyone beyond their comfort zone but all that was seen was smiling faces.”
