CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR: Saturday November 28, 10am to 2pm Beckley Village Centre to raise funds for Beckley Pre-School and Northiam Nursery (registered charity). Email [email protected]. Put in your calendars for a great day out. The pre-school has boxes to collect items for the annual Christmas Craft Fair. This is their main fundraising event for the year and this is how they raise monies to buy equipment, toys and support the children at Beckley and Northiam. Many thanks for your continued support please drop off any donations to the Beckley Village hall. Monday to Friday, 8.30am to noon. Items still to be kindly donated. White or red bed sheets, table cloths, a real Christmas tree, bacon, milk, bread rolls, ketchup, raffle prizes from business/shops, two elves to help father Christmas in his grotto, a butcher wanting to take turkey orders, people who would spare an hour serving bacon sandwiches or on a stall selling raffle tickets email [email protected].

VILLAGE CALENDAR: This year Tina is making a village calendar to raise funds to support the Better Beckley project. CAN YOU HELP?: With the recent changes in our local bus services, many in our village who rely on buses are finding it difficult to attend the Northiam surgery without a long wait (up to 2 hours) for a bus after their appointment. We would like to set up a voluntary driver service to ease this problem and are looking for two types of volunteer: two or three people who could accept phone calls from those needing a lift and act as a co-ordinator and a number of drivers who could spare a little time to provide the lifts on an informal rota basis. BECKLEY FARMERS MARKET: Saturday December 12, 10am to noon Beckley village Hall Vegebox with fresh fruit and veg, wonderful Lighthouse Bakery breads, meats include Sussex Wild Foods, Emily’s home produced Lamb, Fi’s Pork, Zara’s Salad Dressings, Amanda’s Cakes, Lindy’s Sweets and David’s chocolates. In the car park Rex will be back with his French Cheeses.

Crafts will include Roger’s walking sticks, David’s wooden toys, Sandra’s blankets and homeware, Hilary’s textiles, Marianne’s baskets and Penny with her plants amongst others. Refreshments will be provided by the lovely ladies of the WI as usual.

PARKING: Parked cars and vans along main street: Please do not mount the pavement when parking along main street. The pavement is for people to walk on, push chairs, mobility scooters, electric and manual wheelchairs. When pushing a pushchair you should never have to push your child either into the hedge or the main road to pass the vehicle.

The local police have been told about this in the village and car owners can get fined.

DEFIBRILLATORS: Public access defibrillators (PADs) can be found in public spaces: Northiam Spar shop, Peasmarsh and Iden village halls, Rye sports centre plus many more local to Beckley. Thanks to Beckley Parish Council, Beckley has now got one located on the wall by the main doors at Beckley village hall. Its briefcase-sized box on the wall contains a PAD. It’s there for anyone to use on someone in cardiac arrest. They are simple and safe. The machine gives clear spoken instructions. Once in position, the defibrillator detects the heart’s rhythm. It won’t deliver a shock unless one is needed. Every second counts. After a cardiac arrest, every minute without CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and defibrillation reduces someone’s chance of survival by 10 percent.
