Biblical auction for MU

BIBLICAL quotes inspired items sold at a special auction organised by St Peter's parish church Mothers' Union last Thursday, June 28, which was a testament to the generosity of parishioners and raised just over £167 for MU funds.

The sale had been postponed from April due to many people being away for Easter holidays, but was enthusiastically supported by members all determined to stick to the Scriptures.

The parable of the loaves and fishes was represented by a basket of such items, with bidders encouraged to try for their own miracle, and a watch recalled an excerpt from Luke 19:44 featuring the words: “Knowest not the time”.

Some special entries to the sale included a voucher from the church bellringers, offering to ring a 45-minute peal for a special occasion, and brought a winning bid from someone celebrating an anniversary next year.

Shaws the butchers - now Pipers - in Western Road perhaps had “the fatted calf” in mind (John 15:23) when they donated a meat voucher to the auction.

And an embroidered picture of hot air balloons, which sold for £30, encouraged all eyes to turn heavenward. MU member Jackie Watson said: “It was great fun and we’re delighted with the result.”
