Big night out for baby charity

SAFFRON'S Ball is about raising money for baby charity Bliss - but it's also about having fun at what could be the most glam night of the year.

It's black tie for the boys and best bling for the girls as visitors enjoy dinner, auction, and entertainment at the De La Warr Pavilion on Saturday March 27 from 7pm-midnight.

The worlds of sport and modelling will be well represented as guests include Joe Egan, the former Irish Heavyweight boxing champion, once dubbed the "toughest white man on the planet" by his equally menacing sparring partner Mike Tyson.

Also there will be glamour models keen to support organiser Penny Denwood in her effort for charity Bliss, having experienced herself the need for specialised care of premature babies.

Penny lost two babies born too early, and the ball itself is being held in the name of Saffron, the little girl she lost in September last year.

Coming to Bexhill to do their bit will be model Cheryl Channing, who works for Mean Girls Promotions, Emma Noble and Emma B, while Pop Idol finalist Rebecca Hayes will perform, as will Motown Gold and Rock Idol.

The evening will be hosted by Mark Peters, a fixture on the London charity circuit and comedy scene, and there will also be a Cash In The Attic style auction with lots such as gym membership, driving tuition, and the chance to meet Graham Norton and his guests in the green room as well as being at the recording of his chat show.

Penny, of Sackville Road, is thrilled by response to the ball.

She said: "Well over 100 have already gone -but we still have six weeks left. We have really had a good response.

"It has got to work... but I am sure it will. It makes what happened not so pointless because I can do something which is going to help other people."
