Bognor girl goes country

Songs from a Barnham singer are about to be released on the digital music market.

Charlotte Howard's debut album, English Country Girl, will be available to 500 online music stores.

The 18-year-old, of Garden Crescent, said: "It's really exciting. I'm really looking forward to it.

"The five songs on the album are my intrepretation of country and western music. There are country elements in it as well as some pop and a little bit of rock in one of the songs."

English Country Girl has been months in the making as the songs were fine-tuned to make the biggest impact on music fans.

The title track took six months to reach its final version working with the songs' writer and producer Robin Mayhew.

Charlotte is studying childcare at Chichester College but it is the music industry in which she hopes to make her name.

"I like singing because it shows your emotions," she said. "Being on stage is like acting because you have to look like you are having a good time, whether you are happy or sad, so people enjoy your songs."

She has been singing since she was five. She entered her teenage years performing around campsites before she turned professional at the age of 16.

This year alone has seen her win the High Five talent contest in Yapton, perform live on local radio station Wave 105 and perform a 35 minute set at the Sands of Time festival on Bognor Regis seafront earlier this month.

"I've never sung live on a radio station before," said Charlotte. "I performed English Country Girl with a backing track and also played Together from a CD.

"I used to create a pretend radio station on a cassette player but never thought I would be performing on one and talking to people."
