Bognor student could scoop art prize

Young Bognor Regis artist Molly Double could win a global prize with a painting.

Her artwork has been chosen by the town’s Lions from 86 hopefuls as their entry into the organisation’s latest peace poster contest.

The A3-sized scene in coloured pencil of a teddy bear’s picnic will be put up against others in the worldwide competition. The prize for the ultimate winner is a trip to the UN and $5,000.

Molly, 13, a pupil at The Regis School, won £50. She said: “I thought the picnic was childish and peaceful. I’m proud I’ve won but I didn’t think I would when I was drawing it.”

Her catchline was: “Peace is about being happy and getting on with the people around us.”

Second prize and £25 went to fellow The Regis School pupil Bailey Patten, 12, for his country scene in coloured pencil and watercolours.

Lions past president Graham Stuart-Hill said: “The main point of the contest is getting children’s creative ideas for the further heats.”
