Bogus plumbers burgle 95-year-old woman in Goring

TWO bogus plumbers burgled a 95-year-old woman in Goring.

The theft happened at around 6pm on Wednesday (February 27), when the men arrived at the elderly woman's Limbrick Lane home and claimed to be fixing a leak in a neighbour's house.

The woman allowed the men into her home, where one distracted her by asking her to turn on kitchen taps and the other searched the house and stole various items.

The woman was unhurt but shaken by the ordeal.

Both men were white and one was described as in his 20s, around 5ft 10ins tall, of slim build, with a blue jacket and jeans. The other man was in his 30s to 40s, balding and thickset.

DS Colin O'Hare, of Worthing CID, said: "This type of crime is sadly becoming more and more common. The people are approaching the elderly and, in some cases, are stealing what little belongings they have.

"Their actions are despicable and we will do all we can to bring people like this to justice."

This burglary is believed linked to a very similar burglary that occurred about 5pm the same day in Spitalfield Lane, Chichester, where burglars said there was a problem with the water and stole money.
