Prime Minister Tony Blair did the next worst thing with a hospital protest letter from the mayor of Worthing '“ he sent it to the Department of Transport.

Mayor Tom Wye thinks Tony Blair's office only bothered to read the first paragraph of the letter before bunging the problem on to someone else.

Major Wye said: "I mentioned the A27 was like a car park and at that point they must have thought 'great, we'll send it to the transport people'. If they bothered to get as far as the second paragraph they would have seen it was about the hospital. It would be funny if it wasn't so serious."
