Boy (12) critical after accident

A 12-year-old cyclist was said to be improving at St Richard's Hospital on Wednesday after being seriously injured in a road accident in Barrack Lane, Aldwick, on Monday afternoon.

The boy who has not been named received serious head and other injuries when he was in collision with a red Peugot 107 near the Craigwell shops and Royal Bay Nursing Home.

The accident happened at around 3.20pm on the first day of the school half-term holidays and the boy was rushed to St Richard's Hospital in Chichester with potentially life-threatening injuries.

He was transferred to the specialist brain injury unit at Southampton General Hospital and is now back at St Richard's Hospital where his condition was said to be improving.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the accident to contact them on 0845 60 70 999, quoting Operation Bayou.
