BRIGHT START AT NEW-LOOK CLUB

THE Broadway, Newhaven, opened its doors on Thursday night last week at the old Liberty's site for VIP guests.

This was after it had undergone a total refurbishment by new owners Ambassador Leisure.

Director Richard Calderbank said: 'We are extremely happy with the way our opening weekend went.

'We realise that we have an upward struggle to attract custom back to the town and to convince people that this is a totally different venue from other clubs that have occupied the site previously. The response so far has been very positive and our gradual roll out of live entertainment and party nights will attract visitors from surrounding areas.

Newhaven Police provided a planned response, which involved officers working directly with the club's security staff.

Sgt George Meloy said: 'Our staff worked in partnership with the club to ensure individuals who might have intended to cause problems in the club and town did not get in. Police were also on hand to support the club in dealing with individuals who did not meet the club's dress code.'

The club management is keen to make sure it remains trouble-free and those who go there are aware of what is expected of them.
