Brighton man knocked unconscious

Police are appealing for witnesses to an unprovoked attack in Brighton which left a man unconscious.

The victim, a 56-year-old local man, was punched in the face, causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head, said officers. Police said paramedics attended but he refused treatment.

The incident outside the Franklin Arms pub in Lewes Road around midnight on the night of November 9-10.

Police said a 22-year-old man from Brighton was arrested in the same road shortly afterwards on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, being drunk and disorderly in public, criminal damage, using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence, and two counts of assaulting a police officer in the execution of their duty.

He has been released but remains under investigation pending further enquiries, say officers.

A number of people were in the area at the time and police are urging anyone who saw what happened to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 5 of 10/11.
