Quiz: Tonight is quiz night at the Pavilion in Burwash Common. Teams of six players are welcome to join in this monthly event. Bateman’s: Tomorrow Bateman’s will be staging Summer Garden tours and tea. You can join the head gardener and gain an insight into how Rudyard Kipling transformed the quiet corner of East Sussex into a garden for his family, his writing and as a retreat. A cream team will follow the tour. Entry is by normal admission plus £15. Booking is essential, so call 01435 882302.

Craft: Also at Bateman’s tomorrow and Sunday, The East Sussex Guild of Crafts are holding an exhibition of crafts in leather, lace, glass and jewellery. It is being held in the grounds and normal admission applies. It is open from 11am to 5pm both days.

NSY: The Burwash Not So Young club members will meet at the Burwash village hall on Thursday afternoon at 2.15pm for their July meeting. This lively group for the senior members of our communities is open to anyone over 60, male and female. They enjoy a great many different speakers on a wide variety of subjects, so there is always something for all to enjoy. Last month the group were visited by two irresistible dogs from the hearing dogs for deaf people. This month Claire Baldry will be visiting with the intriguing topic Retiring with Rhyme. Do go along and join them, it is a great way to meet new friends and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a refreshing cuppa and cake.

Theatre: Once again the village will be entertained by the cast of The Rude Mechanical Theatre company. They will perform Babi Babbett on Friday 7th August at the Swan Meadow Playing Fields I n Burwash at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the box office on 01323 501260 or on line at www.therudemechanicaltheatre.co.uk or from Londis in Burwash High Street.

Summer show The Burwash horticultural society are holding their summer Show on Saturday 1st August at the Pavilion in Swan meadow playing fields. Entry forms are available from The flower house and should be returned with entry fee by Mid-day Thursday 30th July. This show is open to all for fruit, vegetables, flowers, floral art, cookery, photography and children’s classes.
