Cadets in shootout to the top

Sharp shooting sea cadets from Bognor Regis have started their 2007 season on a high.

Petty Officer Cadet Greg Walters won a gold medal for his tied first place in the individual competition of a south and south east of England shoot off. He scored 174 points of a possible 200.

The team of Bognor sea cadets of which he was a member took second place in the contest.

This success followed the squad of four's achievement in becoming the district champions.

They saw off competition from eight other units, including one from the Falkland Islands.

Besides beating all-comers, PO Cadet Walters and Leading Cadet Ricky Clarke were awarded their advanced shooting badges.

Basic shooting badges were also awarded to Able Cadet Charlie Cassie and Ordinary Cadet Ashley Percy.

The triumphs have continued a series of successes for the sea cadets, who are based at the TS Sir Alec Rose on Longbrook off Sea Road in Felpham. They have been Bisley full bore champions and Adrian Aird, from the unit, has been awarded the title of top national shooting coach. The unit meets on Monday and Thursday evenings (01243 842781).
