Capel Military Vehicle Show a ‘resounding success’

The third Capel Military Vehicle Show, held last weekend, was the most successful to date, with over 3,000 visitors generating more than £5,000 for Help For Heroes – twice the amount the charity raised last year.

Organisers said this was a ‘resounding success’.

Highlights of the weekend included:

- A Chinook helicopter landing on Saturday morning and remaining at the show for the entire day. This helicopter entered service in 1982 and has been involved in every conflict since (Falklands, Bosnia, Gulf War, Iraq, Sierra Leone, Libya and Afghanistan). It was also involved in humanitarian aid in Pakistan.

- Over 200 military vehicles including tanks which crushed cars and fire shells twice on both Saturday and Sunday.

- An exciting World War 2 re-enactment battle between the allies and Germany featuring original uniforms and weapons as well as several replica German tanks.

Other popular attractions were the children’s mini tanks, shooting ranges, children’s entertainment, Lindy Hop dance lessons and locally-run bar which did a roaring trade thanks to the glorious weather.

Organisers were also delighted to spot comedian Al Murray and his family enjoying themselves at the show.

Flight Lieutenant Andrew Davidson, a serving RAF officer who is one of the show organisers, commented: “We are delighted at how many people visited the show this year and with the amount of positive feedback we’ve received. We promised that this show would be bigger and louder than ever and we were true to our word.

“Our aim is to provide good honest family entertainment while raising vital funds for Help For Heroes and we are very proud to have achieved this. I would like to thank BAE Systems for their sponsorship which enabled us to lay on such a fantastic event. We look forward to seeing everyone at next year’s show.”

Next year’s Capel Military Vehicle Show will be held on Saturday July 2 and Sunday July 3.
