Car crash damages Lyminster family’s home

A LYMINSTER family have had to move out of their home after a car crashed into the front of the property.

It could be months before Roger and Sarah Davies and their two grown-up sons are able to return to the 300-year-old Flint Cottage in Lyminster Road, after its front wall was partially demolished in the crash.

The house has been declared structurally unsafe and the family are now living in temporary accommodation while repairs are carried out. The listed building has a rare type of flint work and has to be restored exactly as it was before the accident, on Saturday, January 26.

Despite the extensive damage to the house, no one was injured in the crash. The car, being driven by a woman on her way to work in Littlehampton, veered off the road just before the sharp bend at the junction with Church Lane, passing through the cottage’s narrow gateway, across its drive and ended up in the lounge.

“The whole house shook,” said Mr Davies. “A few minutes later we would have been downstairs and sitting in that room, so it’s very fortunate that no one was injured.

“It’s all been very upsetting, but we are philosophical about it now.”

The accident happened at about 7.15am, a few hours after another incident directly opposite the cottage, in which a van, thought to have been stolen, crashed into trees.
