Chamber chief attacks rail proposal

BEXHILL Chamber of Commerce and Tourism president David Getty, has labelled the proposals to scrap the Bexhill to Victoria train link as "perverse".

The chamber leader warned such a move could have serious implications for the town's economy.

The Brighton Mainline Route Utilisation Study published by the Strategic Rail Authority (SRA) last year proposes withdrawing the through service from Hastings/Bexhill to London Victoria.

Now campaigners fear Bexhill's hopes of meaningful regeneration may be dashed by the loss of an attractive route to the capital.

Mr Getty, along with other members of Town MP Greg Barker's lobbying team, made his point direct to transport minister Derek Twigg at a recent meeting in the House of Commons.

Bexhill Rail Action group holds a rallying meeting next Monday.
