Charities fair proves popular

More than 75 villagers and community members came to the Walberton Village Hall last Saturday to support the Combined Charities Autumn Fair.

A group of four charities, ROPE (Relief for Oppressed People Everywhere), The Snowdrop Trust, Mother's Union and the Arthritis Research Campaign decided to combine forces and hold this joint venture.

The various stalls which included guess the weight of the cake, tombola, Cabouchon jewellery, Christmas items, bring and buy, bric a brac, cake stall and raffle, raised money for each of the charities involved, but the proceeds from the raffle and door takings were shared equally.

'It was a most successful morning in spite of the bad weather,' said ARC area appeals manager Viv Foss, 'and the atmosphere in the hall was buzzing with people having a chance to look around and enjoy the things on offer.'

The entry fee of 1 included coffee and biscuits which was most generously sponsored by Waitrose.

'I do hope we will continue to work together and hold the same event next year,' said Viv.
