Children's Holiday Activities at Pebsham Community Centre

THE vagaries of the British climate cannot defeat Rother Children's Centres.

Well versed in the art of contingency planning, organisers of Tuesday's scheduled outdoor activities at Pebsham as part of the Rother Children's Centres series of summer holiday activities simply abandoned the morning's martial arts tuition on the recreation ground.

Instead, youngsters enjoyed a wide range of activities in the shelter of the community centre while heavy showers alternated with bursts of sunshine outside.

The youngsters had fun learning about dental hygiene with Hastings and Rother Primary Care Trust, making giant toothbrushes and then cleaning and equally enormous set of teeth.

With the help of parents, the little ones could assist Rother council in planning its 60,000 refurbishment of the estate's children' s playground by setting out their preferences for play equipment.

They could colour in human figures, indulge in pre-school crafts, or - courtesy of the De La Warr Pavilion - use withies to make Olympic torches.

The summer holiday activities programme is drawing to a close but there will be further opportunities for play at the De La Warr Pavilion tomorrow and at Glyne Gap School on Tuesday. Full details from Bexhill Children's Centre in Egerton Park.
