Commuter misery as floods and ticket rises hit passengers

Flooding across the rail network caused delays of up to an hour to some journeys, with flood water around Christ’s Hospital in Horsham particularly affecting commuters in the Gazette area.

As a result of this flooding, trains which usually run from Barnham to Horsham are being replaced by buses.

However, trains from Horsham to Barnham are able to run as normal.

Other journeys, including those to London Victoria, have also been affected as a result of the heavy water.

Some trains may be diverted via Hove and journey times may be extended by up to 45 minutes, National Rail said.

The disruption comes on the day rail fares rose, on average, by 2.8 per cent, pushing the cost of some commuter travel to more than £5,000 a year.
