Four Mid Sussex motorists convicted in Christmas drink-driving crackdown

Four people from Mid Sussex are among 31 motorists who have so far been convicted as part of Sussex Police’s Christmas crackdown on drink and drug-drivers.

The campaign – set by the National Police Chief’s Council – ran from December 18, to January 1, inclusive, and led to a total of 110 arrests in Sussex, police said.

Molly Towers-Mode, 20, an advertising executive, of Bramble Hill, Balcombe, was arrested in Ring Road South at Gatwick Airport on December 23, said police, and charged with driving with 79mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in her system.

At Crawley Magistrates’ Court on January 9, she was disqualified from driving for 17 months, confirmed police. She was also ordered to pay a £480 fine, £85 costs and a £48 victim surcharge.

Sasha Starks, 25, a care assistant, of Windmill Platt, Handcross, was arrested in Grande Parade, Brighton, on December 21, police said, and charged with driving with 68mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in her system and failing to stop when required by police.

At Brighton Magistrates’ Court on January 9, she was disqualified from driving for 18 months, said police. She was also ordered to pay a £393 fine, £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.

Adrian Cope, 69, a driver, of Queens Drive, Hassocks, was arrested in Queens Drive, Hassocks, on December 27, and charged with driving with 50mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system, police said.

At Crawley Magistrates’ Court on January 10, he was disqualified from driving for 14 months, confirmed police. He was also ordered to pay a £253 fine, £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.

Rocky Martin, 36, a publican, of Haynes Way, Pease Pottage, was arrested in Broadfield Drive, Crawley, on January 1, and charged with driving with 62mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system.

At Crawley Magistrates’ Court on January 15, he was disqualified from driving for 17 months, said police. He was also ordered to pay a £350 fine, £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.

Sussex Police said: “If you’re prepared to drive under the influence of drink or drugs, prepare to face the consequences.

“These could include the following:

• Killing or seriously injuring yourself or someone else;

• A minimum 12 month ban;

• • An unlimited fine;

• A possible prison sentence;

• A criminal record, which could affect your current and future employment;

• An increase in your car insurance costs;

• Trouble travelling to countries such as the USA.”
