Reports of a man ‘with a gun’ in Haywards Heath sparked a response from armed police.

Officers descended on an address in the town last night (April 6), after receiving intelligence.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Police were called to an address in South Road, Haywards Heath, at around 9.20pm on Monday (April 6), to reports of a man in possession of a gun.

“Officers attended and arrested a 58-year-old man on suspicion of possessing a firearm otherwise than in accordance with a licence He remains in custody at this stage.

“A number of firearms were removed from the premises by officers while enquiries continue.”
