De La Warr: more unhappy contractors

YET more disgruntled sub-contractors have come forward claiming non-payment for work on the De La Warr Pavilion.

David Martin, head of Winstone Engineering Company, who last week revealed he was owed 23,000 by pavilion contractors Heasman Spicer, says last week's front page "really put the cat among the pigeons."

He claims several businesses have been in touch with him after reading the story saying they too have yet to be paid. But he adds Heasman Spicer have met with the businessmen and a settlement is expected soon.

He said: "I think the story has done something. Others have come out of the woodwork and two or three (businesses) have been in touch with and approached me with the same problem.

"Within a couple of days we should hopefully know about the money. We were going to go to the MP Greg Barker, but have been told to hold fire for two days."

The Pavilion Trust is endeavouring to raise further refurbishment funds to add to the 8million originally secured.
