Despair as thieves target youth club

YOUNG people in Seaford have been left devastated after thieves stole a 42-inch flat screen TV from their new youth club.

It took a huge effort and months of campaigning to get The Base at The Salts recreation ground up and running and equipped.

The Base, formerly the old tennis ticket hut, was renovated after the Elm Court youth centre shut down last year.

Now the television has gone, staff and youngsters are bitterly disappointed. Before the set was stolen, someone had broken into the centre and taken crisps and drinks. It was during a second raid just a few hours later that the TV was taken.

Sgt David Kemp, of Seaford Police, said: 'This is very sad news for Seaford. The TV was obtained from a charitable donation and had been enjoyed by a great many people.' Jackie Blackwell, Seaford community partnership development worker, said the young people had worked hard to put together a bid for the TV which came out of the county council's youth opportunity fund.
