'Dress up dinner' at All Saint's School

GOVENORS and Head teachers of Sidley's All Saint's school had a special treat in-store for them when they were invited to a, 'dress up dinner' on Thursday.

The lunch - prepared and served by the foundation, or 'reception' class, and year one pupils '“ was the idea of teachers Kelly Sinfield and Laura Dray, and was the culmination of four weeks hard work.

Laura explained that all the children involved had joined forces to work on the project, and that the lunch was part of a, "joint leaning journey."

She said: "They have done everything from making the invitations, menus and tablecloths, laying the table, preparing and cooking the meal, seating the guests, serving the food and also chose their own chill-out music."

She added: "The idea behind it was to help increase co-operation, communication and problem solving, and to involve the foundation class working with year one."

The guests enjoyed a delicious three course meal which had starters of vegetable soup, or melon, main courses of pasta, or stir fry vegetables, and desserts of strawberry fruit fool or fruit salad.

Two of the pupils taking part and acting as 'hostesses' - welcoming and seating the guests - were six year old Carys Lambourne and five year old Elle-May West.

Both girls had enjoyed preparing for the day and Carys said: "I liked being the hostess and we all did the chill out music, and it's nice."

Ellie May said: "I liked getting ready for the dinner party and getting all the stuff ready, and I liked showing the people to their seats and being kind and saying good afternoon."

After the dinner party the pupils got to interview the guests and ask them questions, something which Carys said she was looking forward to.

She said: "I liked getting the questions ready and will ask them, did you like your dinner?"
