Drink driver caught

A DRINK driver was caught after tailing and overtaking an unmarked police car.

Lewis St John, 24, of Harold Road, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol when he appeared at Hastings Magistrates Court last week.

Media teacher St John was found to be over the limit when police stopped his Fiat Punto on Litrtle Common Road, Bexhill, on October 28.

He was found to have a breath reading of 52mg. The legal limit is 35mg

Prosecutor Mark Kateley said: "He was driving close to the back of a police vehicle and then overtook it. That is why the police stopped him.

"He admitted having a drink and has no previous convictions."

Diane Mounier, defending, said: "He had not drunk for some four hours and thought he was ok, but clearly he wasn't."

Magistrate chairman Godfrey Daniel said: "This was a foolish escapade and hopefully you have learned from it."

St John was fined 330 with 60 costs and banned from driving for one year.
