Drunk man urinated in street

A drunk man swore at people and urinated in the street in public.

Barry Collins, 48, of Collington Road, Bexhill, was approached by police in Bexhill Marina after receiving complaints about his behaviour.

Prosecutor Alison May said: "A member of staff in one of the shops saw the defendant outside shouting in the street.

"People walked past him and he suddenly pulled down his trousers and began to urinate in full view in the street and then karate chopped himself.

"As people were getting nearer the defendant was shouting louder and louder in their direction.

"When police officers arrived they could smell alcohol on him and he swore at them.

"He had a bottle of Cava in his hand which was nearly empty.

"The defendant was slurring his words and his eyes were glazed. He tried to pick up his bike but was unable to because of difficulties standing up."

Collins appeared before Hastings magistrates in court on Monday and pleaded guilty to one charge of being drunk and disorderly.

The incident happened on April 23.

Kim Goodall, defending, said: "The defendant lives in a residential care home in Bexhill and suffers very badly from schizophrenia.

"He says he was having an argument with his ex-partner's ghost at the time.

"He gets injections for his condition and had drunk alcohol on the day."

Magistrates fined Collins 100 and ordered 60 court costs.
